G36 Love Cont.
In the previous post I talked about how much fun I had revisiting an old friend, the G36K. I talked about the pro’s and con’s of the platform and why I liked it so much right now. But why did I pick it as my starting gun in the first place? It wasn’t because it was the cheapest option -well, maybe a little bit-, it was because of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Weirdly enough, in that world of AK’s, OTs-14’s, AN-94’s, VSS’s and other cool Soviet/Russian guns, I fell in love with the weird chimera that is the G36 in the game.
Weird chimera? Well look at it! It’s a G36K barrel length gun, but with the handguard and flash hider of the G36E, full size! And, like all guns in the game, it’s mirrored. It also has the dual optic that the G36 rifle has. The rifle as depicted in the game simply does not and, I think, also cannot exist. That being said, to me, more than ten years ago, it looked really cool. I didn’t think it was out of place in the zone. Most of the western guns don’t really feel out of place, not even the F2000, although that’s about the last gun I’d want to use in that particular setting. The forward ejection system struggles in normal conditions, let alone a swamp or someplace dusty… No, I’ll take a less complicated gun, thank you very much!
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro-series is also the reason why I got into airsoft in the first place. The sense of discovery, the tenseness of sneaking around and tactically trying to make your way to an objective in an abandoned setting. I want to believe that this is one of the reasons I’m keeping up with this hobby for more than a decade now. Longer than any hobby before it. I’m in it for the atmosphere, the thrill of the hunt, the sense of discovery, the never ending struggle to solve the complex puzzles that any given situation hands me. I’m not in it for the kill/death ratio or the cool flashy actions.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy getting the drop on a stack of guys (see attached video for instance) and I get frustrated when I get to a position where I was before only to get shot out again. But it’s the moments in between, where I’m moving, being really aware of my surroundings, of my guys around me. The hunt. The suspense. Sometimes the long wait. I enjoy it. My day is made by one action I can be proud of. Hell, it doesn't even have to be an action sequence per se, I’ve felt good about a skirm simply because the communication was really good, even though I neary fired a shot that day. Success is what you define as success for yourself. Don’t let your ego get in the way of having fun. After all, you’ve paid x amount of money to get shot at, that’s the truth.

there is a game in Portugal that might be right up your alley. It's next weekend, I'm curious of the feedback that will come online. It's a game organised by ANA.
