I bought the Ultimate Glock - did I make a mistake?

This was a pistol I was incredibly excited to see release. GHK getting involved with Pistols? The Gas Gods had spoken! I treated myself to one a couple of months back, but how is it performing? Here are a few of my thoughts on my impressions after a couple of games with it.

The first thing I have to say is that the build quality out of the box is impressive. The pistol feels solid, a metal slide with a polymer frame, that sound as you cock the slide for the first time... it leaves a huge grin on your face that comes back every time you do it (the words "I am now fully erect" were mentioned by one individual who I showed the pistol). As for the magazine I would love to know what material they used to make it - I have NEVER felt a magazine so light. The magazine design is also like no other, with a fully enclosed front (no exposed BB's and followers) and the gas fill valve hidden underneath the baseplate and only accessible by pushing a small button and sliding the baseplate out of the way. Externally, this is an awesome pistol. How does it perform though?

I have been finding a variable performance, chronoing generally around the 230-240fps mark on a 0.28g BB (Seeing as it is quoted in the literature as <1J on a 0.2g BB once the hop was set this was around the figure I was expecting to see personally) but I do get the odd couple of shots that chrono much lower. The hop is a nightmare to set having to fully remove the internal barrel to adjust it. There is a replacement hop unit available from Maple Leaf, this is something I will be getting when I get the chance to. One thing I will say that has been noticeable when firing this is the sound every time you pull the trigger - you know that horrible sound just before your mag vents?

That "pop" sound? That's what I get every time I fire the thing. It is the most anxiety inducing sound ever. I have since found out that apparently the mags have been known to have air trapped in them during shipping that requires flushing through, maybe this is something I will have to look into a bit more. There has also been a couple of stories of the nozzles snapping after only around 20 mags through the gun, so something else to keep my eye on as well.

In conclusion, I love this pistol. I just can't help but feel like they have dropped the ball on some things, which when you're paying £400 for a pistol should just be better. While this pistol is guaranteed to leave a smile on your face, there are just a couple of things that I feel could have been done a bit better. I am glad I bought it, I really am, and I have had a lot of fun in game with it. I would defend this pistol to the hills, it is mine and it makes me happy and nobody can take that away from me. However, I also feel that some improvements to the overall quality could be made when you're paying that much.
